Dr Sugato is a skilled HR professional. He has worked both in start-ups, as well as established corporations leading the HR functions at a Group/Global level. He has worked in several industries, including FMCG, beverage alcohol, FMCD, retail, QSR and real estate. Some of the companies where he has worked in senior HR assignments include Marico, SAB Miller, Pernod Ricard (Seagram), Perfetti van Melle, Yokohama Tyres (ATG) and Pepsi (Varun Beverages). He has had the opportunity to build up organizations from scratch, increase their valuation for the PE and transition them. Additionally he has worked with mid-sized and larger organizations to build scalable and sustainable processes. In a recent corporate initiative, he has successfully transitioned the PepsiCo company owned businesses in the South and the West, to its bottling partners, in one of the largest trains in the beverage industry. This involved transiting and stabilizing 11 plants, 6 sales states and 2500 PepsiCo employees being transitioned to Varun Beverages, at one go, without a single day’s loss of business, in a US$ 285 million deal. In the past, he has worked on such transitions/ integrations in organizations like Alliance Tire Group (ATG) which was transitioned from Warburg Pincus to KKR (currently acquired by Yokohama Tires). He has also been a critical facilitator in the acquisition of Seagram by Pernod Ricard and streamlining van Melle by Perfetti, in the Indian subcontinent, looking after HR, industrial relations and strategy. He is also a communications specialist and has handled sales as well. Currently, Sugato provides strategic business advisory to leadership teams, conceptualizes and executes transformational leadership, innovation (certified in the De Bono system), scale-ups, sales effectiveness (certified by Franklin Covey) both in corporates as well as educational institutions. He has often been quoted in the press, referred to for strategic roundtables and recognized with several National and International HR Awards. He is currently working on a startup in the organizational excellence, design thinking and innovation space.
